PLEASE HELP

I have a serving platter that belonged to my great, great grandmother. The platter is well over 100 years old, however, I know nothing about its origin or value--other than my family lived in Georgia and Tennessee. There is a "makers mark" of some kind on the back but it cannot be read. Where do I start??

I'm sure the maker, I can't seem to find the exact pattern. Your great, great grandmother's platter might be copeland spode. Here's some example of similar pieces that have sold:

Copeland Spode Platter

19th century Copeland Spode platter

If the platter is copeland spode, it's worth around $50-$100 dollars.

Without seeing the makers mark, a fair appraisal can not be made. A previous reader referred to Copeland/Spode. The Spode family worked in pottery in Staffordshire (England) as early as 1762. Three generations of the Spode family operated in Stoke-upon-Trent and the company continued on the same site for nearly 250 years. n 1867 the company's official trade name was changed to WT Copeland and Sons, only reverting back to Spode in 1970. Specific marks were used during specific years by many of the great china/procelain makers. The porcelain and china makers kept meticulous records that are available to us today, and are used in dating a specific piece. Please provide a photo of the makers mark.
